How do restore WhatsApp from iCloud to Android?
Currently, WhatsApp doesn’t offer any solution to restore your WhatsApp chats from iCloud/iCloud Drive to any Android device. As a matter of fact, there isn’t any way to restore your WhatsApp chats from Google Drive backup to iPhone. Sounds fair, right?
To make this happen, you’ll need third party apps and most of them are not free. I know this because my husband just switched from the iPhone to the new Galaxy Note (which runs on Android) and couldn’t transfer his chats by using the regular ‘Backup Transfer’ method that usually works when you upgrade from one smartphone to another that has the same OS, e.g., upgrading from one Samsung Galaxy device to another.
He finally did it with the help of a desktop tool/computer software called iPhone WhatsApp to Android. You can checkout this video about restoring WhatsApp chats from iPhone/iCloud to Android to know more about this app. Here are the steps that you need to follow to restore your chats from iPhone/iCloud to your Android smartphone:
- Download iTunes on your computer if it is not installed on your computer.
- Backup WhatsApp chats on your iPhone by going Settings > Chats > Chats Backup.
- Install and run WhatsApp Transfer app on your computer and connect your iPhone to your computer.
- Transfer WhatsApp chats from from iPhone to your computer by using the ‘Backup’ feature of the app.
- Now install the WhatsApp messenger app on your Android device and verify your phone number too. You need to enable usb-debugging option on your OnePlus device too. Note: If you have only single SIM, you can remove it from your iPhone and insert it on your Android device.
- After setting up WhatsApp on your Android device connect it to your computer and restore the chats by using the ‘Restore’ feature of the ap.
I’ve written these steps here because they are little different than the process shown in the above video. Hope will help those who are switching from an iPhone to an Android device. Happy switching!
Update: As per multiple reliable sources including Verge, WABetaInfo WhatsApp is soon introducing a new feature that will finally allow WhatsApp Messenger users to transfer their WhatsApp chat history between Android and iOS. This feature will be first available on the Samsung Galaxy devices and eventually the feature will cover other Android devices as well.
This is certainly a good news, but this feature will take some time. Till then you have to rely on the tools developed by third-party developers.
